SA Sports Fever Crossbow Package Review

Reading about the different crossbows on the market is my hobby and if you’ve been following this site, you know what I mean. I had a fellow hunting buddy that came up to me the other day and asked me if I could point him towards a crossbow that was easy to assemble and affordable because he wanted to start teaching his teenage son how to use a crossbow.
In no time at all, I recalled the SA Sports Fever Crossbow Package because it is affordable and in my opinion, great for teenagers. Here’s why I recommended the SA Sports Fever crossbow package to my buddy for his son …

Easy to Put Together

The SA Sports Fever crossbow isn’t hard to put together. In fact, it should only take 30 minutes (if that) from start to finish to put it all together. Basically, you start out by installing the limb protectors and foot stirrup, then move forward by installing the limb into the stock. Once the limb assembly and stock have been put together, it is time for you to move to the string. To string the bow, make sure you use the strangle cable that is included, otherwise you may end up with a crossbow that hasn’t been strung properly. After you have put the string on, move forward by putting all of the pieces together – this includes mounting the scope and installing the quiver. Once the assembly is done, head on over to the range and test for accuracy.

The Accuracy

As far as the accuracy goes, it is pretty good. Weighing less than five pounds, the SA Sports Fever crossbow is obviously light and has a short power stroke. At 175 pounds, the draw is pretty heavy. However, despite it all, the arrow only fires at 240 fps – this gives the arrow around 51 ft lbs of kinetic energy. Yes, that is about what you need to take down a deer, but barely.

Is the crossbow suitable for hunting?

Yes, this crossbow is powerful enough to take down a buck. On another note, the crossbow is so light that a teenager could easily carry it around in the woods without getting tired.

Is it safe?

This crossbow has safety and anti-dry fire mechanisms. Each one of these mechanisms work perfectly, every time. The bow is sturdy enough, so it should last for a couple of seasons. The string is also good and won’t wear out for some time, as long as you care for it properly.

Cocking the Crossbow

It is fairly easy to cock the crossbow with the rope-cocking device. Like you would expect of a recurve, the crossbow pulls back smooth. Another plus is the fact that the safety will automatically engage and the anti-dry fire mechanism will latch into place.

Trigger is Easy to Use

The trigger on this crossbow is very nice and is easy to use. In fact, some may say that it is better than some triggers on rifles. Located on the forearm, you will find a palm swell, which is there for added comfort.

At the time of writing this article, there was a total of 110 reviews posted on Amazon. The crossbow received a total of 4.6 out of 5 stars, so it is obviously a good weapon to use. Out of all the reviewers, I found one that had a problem that the others did not have. The negative reviewer stated, “The bow was kicking the bolts into the right side and hitting front sight causing bolts to fly to the left. Inspected limbs and limbs was not bowing the same amount of distance. Something not right with limbs.”
I took a look at what other reviewers were saying and didn’t find anyone else that had a problem with kicking the bolts into the right side, so maybe it was just a problem only one customer had. Other reviewers stated. “Awesome value, great product, spent five times as much on my first crossbow, this is just as good quality, easy to assemble, 30min. Unbelievable, may order a spare!!!” And “This was for my son who is only 11. He had to have some help with assembly, but not much. It is a little out of his weight limit, but it won’t be long and he will be able to use 100% by himself.

In conclusion, the SA Sports Fever Crossbow package has many good ratings overall. Most of the individuals who have purchased this crossbow appear to be happy with what they have. The bow is compact and light, making it easy to carry in the woods. In addition, it is easy to cock. It is a great weapon for the price and is definitely a good starter bow for people who are new to the sport.
